General Manager

Following an internal restructure we are looking for an experienced General Manager to be our next leader of Newquay Leisure World in beautiful Cornwall. This is a rare opportunity to lead a flag ship facility consisting of a gym, new outdoor fitness area, two studios, 25m fitness pool and a leisure pool with slides, trampoline park, soft play and Café.     Cornwall is a fantastic place to live and work so this is a rare opening for an experienced Manager looking to combine a fresh career challenge with all of the enviable aspects of a new way of life by the sea.   Newquay Leisure World is located within Trenance Park, an area popular with families and home to a number of large visitor attractions.   There are good road links, a train station and ample car parking.   Newquay Leisure World is Cornwall’s largest leisure centre and provides an array of activities for locals and visiting tourists.    With significant uplifts in visitor numbers during holiday periods, we are looking for a dynamic manager with strong business acumen who can maximise programming and income opportunities.      The centre has benefited from significant capital investment since the Cornwall Partnership joined GLL in 2017 including the completion of a £3m purpose built trampoline and play park with an onsite Café, a refurbished gym and studios, investment in plant such as new boilers and £145k in an outdoor gym.      The successful candidate will maintain and grow the current business at Newquay Leisure World which now has some solid foundations in place to really move this centre forwards positively.  With a great mix of products on offer this is the perfect opportunity for a highly motivated and results driven General Manager to make a positive difference.   The business focus going into 2024 will be on growing the swim school and schools swimming programme, expansion of birthday parties, embedding the outdoor gym and senior programmes plus ensuring all activity programmes fully meet the needs of the local community and tourists.   Strong leadership is required to manage a large team of staff with a flexible approach required to rotas/programmes to ensure staffing levels meet the needs of the business.    In addition, a willingness to go the extra mile and support the team during peak times is essential to ensure service delivery is consistent at the required standard.    This opportunity is therefore perfectly suited to an existing General Manager who is looking for their next challenge.   The right candidate will thrive in this hands-on customer facing role where you are coaching and leading your team to deliver outstanding operational standards and the highest possible levels of customer service.    The pools element of the centre is approaching 50 years old so a proactive approach to building repair and maintenance is required to minimise service disruption.   Investment in GLL and our core values is also essential to helping embed Newquay Leisure World into the community and build positive relationships with stakeholders.        If you are interested in this role, please apply via the CoreHR advert and upload a CV and cover letter in one document outlining your current experience and why you think you would be a great fit for the role, what skills and qualities you feel you could bring to Newquay Leisure World and why you are interested in applying.    Deadline to apply is Sunday 10th December 2023.   Equally, if you would like an informal chat about the role, please do not hesitate to get in contact with the Senior General Manager Amelia Kitchen or the Head of Service, James Curry.      A relocation package may be considered for the right candidate.   To be shortlisted for the role, internal applicants will need to demonstrate their commitment to GLL by becoming a Society member where eligible.   We are an inclusive employer.
