Job description


Due to ongoing growth, Oxfordshire Swim Academy is recruiting full-time and part-time swimming teachers in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire areas to join our existing team. Oxfordshire Swim Academy is a private swim school offering private and semi-private swimming lessons for children aged 2 to 12 years and adults Monday – Friday in term time (in line with Oxfordshire CC school holidays). We are Swim England affiliated and follow the national ‘Learn to Swim’ framework for children with a nurturing approach to teaching (without aids), enabling faster progression and development. We have an exciting new opportunity for Swimming Teachers at the Double Tree by Hilton Oxford Belfry Hotel (children only), The Oxfordshire Golf Hotel & Spa (adults and children’s holiday intensives), and a private pool in Haddenham (children only), Buckinghamshire. You will be working in a fun, lively environment with like-minded people in warm water! You will help to inspire students to achieve their very best whilst ensuring their safety in the water. With your passion for teaching, swimming and excellent class programming and instructing skills, you will be full of enthusiasm whilst engaging our customers with your extensive knowledge and expertise. Responsibilities will include evaluating student’s performance and providing continuous feedback on their progress via our intuitive teacher/parent portal. It would be advantageous if you hold an NRASTC /Lifesaving Qualification in addition to any CPD courses in teaching SEND Children. However, if you are a motivated and driven individual, then with our continuous learning and development opportunities, we would be happy to support you in achieving these qualifications. Scope of Job: • Applicants should be confident and be prepared to teach mostly in, and out of the water. • Have a good understanding of the Swim England awards scheme. • Teach swimming techniques and water safety skills with patience, to students with varying swimming abilities. This may include children with SEND. • Plan and execute fun, progressive and stage-specific lesson plans. • Assessing the progress of students via the online portal and adjusting your teaching programs accordingly. You will be required to update the portal (checking off skills achieved) within 48 hours of your shift. • Writing brief end-of-term reports to parents. • Ensuring that equipment is kept in good condition and tidy around the pool and storage area. Skills required: • Passionate about helping people of all ages to build confidence, learn to swim or become stronger, more proficient swimmers. • You will be a friendly, approachable, and patient individual with the ability to build trust and encourage and motivate your students. • You will thrive on supporting students to achieve their potential, drawing on your continual knowledge and experience of industry best practices whilst applying teaching skills most effectively. • Always looking to seek out development opportunities and potential ideas to further improve the service we provide. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Presenting a professional image to all customers • Strong customer service skills with the ability to converse with parents professionally. • The ability to work independently. • The ability to remain calm in stressful situations. • To be thorough and pay attention to detail. • The ability to inspire confidence and motivate swimmers. • Be conscientious and maintain good records of your swimmer’s performance and development. Educational Requirements: Essential: • Swim England - Swimming Teaching Level 2 qualification or equivalent Beneficial: • NRASTC /Lifesaving Qualification • CPD courses in teaching SEND Children Benefits: • In the Swimming Teacher role, we will offer ongoing training and development opportunities, including support with gaining your NRASTC qualification. • Free swimming lessons for your child + 50% discount for 2 + children. • Term time hours with a minimum of one-week half term and one-week summer holiday intensive course per annum. • Staff absence system where you can request cover and offer cover for colleagues on a point-based system. • Remuneration between £18 - £30 p/hour depending on experience and contractual agreement.
