Leisure Assistant / Lifeguard Post Title Leisure Assistant / Lifeguard Post Purpose The Leisure Assistant / Lifeguard plays a key role in supporting ELA Active Sports Centre’s mission to provide a safe, welcoming and high-quality service to all customers. The role includes lifeguarding duties, maintaining cleanliness standards, setting up equipment, and ensuring a safe and positive environment for all facility users. Reporting To Sports Centre Manager Liaising With: Duty Managers, centre staff, and members of the public Working Hours Flexible working hours. Shift arrangements will be agreed with the Duty Manager and may include: Evenings Weekends Occasional public holidays Salary / Grade £!2.69 per hour + holiday pay calculated at 12.07% per hour worked. Location ELA Active Ltd is part of the Eastern Learning Alliance Trust. This role may involve working across ELA Active sports centre sites as required. Disclosure Level Enhanced DBS required. Key Responsibilities 1. Facility Operations & Service Delivery Deliver excellent customer service through a positive, helpful and professional attitude. Respond effectively to customer enquiries, concerns and complaints. Ensure facilities are clean, safe and appropriately set up for scheduled activities. Conduct regular facility inspections and complete cleaning duties in line with schedules. Set up and dismantle sports equipment for bookings and events. Identify and report equipment faults or maintenance issues promptly. Support basic administrative tasks as required. Promote and communicate centre services and activities accurately. Undertake duties flexibly to meet service needs. 2. Lifeguarding & Pool Safety Provide safe and effective pool supervision in accordance with NPLQ, RLSS guidance and ELA Active training. Maintain constant vigilance to prevent accidents and ensure user safety. Respond promptly and appropriately to emergency situations, following Normal Operating Procedures (NOP) and Emergency Action Plans (EAP). Support the nominated First Aider when required. Ensure safe and correct use of equipment by staff and customers. Uphold the Centre’s Safety Policy at all times. 3. Health & Safety Take responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of all facility users. Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and internal policies. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and operational readiness across wet and dry areas. 4. Training & Development Attend monthly staff training sessions (minimum two hours). Maintain the physical fitness required to meet the demands of the role. Attend annual safeguarding and child protection training. Participate in ongoing development opportunities as required. 5. Safeguarding Responsibilities Comply fully with ELA Trust safeguarding policies and procedures. Promote a culture of vigilance, safety and welfare. Safeguard the wellbeing of children, young people and vulnerable adults. Maintain up-to-date safeguarding knowledge through annual training. 6. Trust Ethos Support and promote the mission and values of the Eastern Learning Alliance Trust. Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures. Comply with the Trust Health and Safety Policy at all times. Qualifications & Training Essential National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) or willingness to obtain within an agreed timeframe. Development Opportunities ELA Active Ltd is committed to supporting staff development. Training opportunities may include: Ongoing lifeguard training and refresher courses Safeguarding and compliance training Role-specific and progression-based development opportunities Full support will be provided to achieve required qualifications. Additional Duties Whilst every effort has been made to outline the main duties and responsibilities of the role, additional tasks may arise to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the facility.
