Duty Manager Post Title Duty Manager Post Purpose The Duty Manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient daily operation of ELA Active Ltd facilities. The role supports staff teams, oversees operational delivery, maintains high health and safety standards, and ensures excellent customer experience at all times. Working closely with the Sports Centre Manager, Assistant Manager, Shift Leaders, Fitness Team and Leisure Assistants, the Duty Manager plays a key role in maintaining safe, welcoming, and professionally operated leisure environments across all sites. Reporting To Sports Centre Manager Working Hours 37 hours per week on a shift rota, including: Early mornings Evenings Weekends Salary From £27,711 Holiday Entitlement 24 days annual leave plus statutory public holidays, increasing with length of service. Key Responsibilities 1. Staff Support & Supervision Provide day-to-day operational support to Shift Leaders, Lifeguards, Leisure Assistants, Swim Teachers, Fitness Instructors and casual staff. Assist the Assistant Manager in supervising staff on duty and ensuring effective completion of tasks. Support staff inductions, training delivery, and ongoing development. Assist with staff scheduling and shift coordination. Promote a positive, collaborative working culture focused on accountability and teamwork. 2. Operational Support Conduct regular operational checks to ensure facilities are clean, safe and fully operational. Support incident management, ensuring correct procedures are followed with minimal disruption to services. Complete routine operational tasks including stock control, minor maintenance coordination, and contractor liaison. Oversee correct setup of Sports Hall activities and programmed sessions. Ensure swimming pool areas are prepared correctly for programmed and public use. Carry out water quality testing and maintain accurate records. Assist with pool plant monitoring, chemical handling and plant room inspections in line with COSHH regulations. Work closely with lifeguards to maintain safe supervision and excellent customer experience. 3. Health & Safety, Compliance & Standards Complete daily health and safety checks and ensure compliance with risk assessments and COSHH procedures. Assist with facility inspections including pool systems, fire safety equipment, first aid provision, and emergency lighting. Complete incident reports accurately and promptly. Support compliance audits and follow up on required actions. Act as designated First Aider during shifts. 4. Customer Service & Community Engagement Act as a key point of contact for customers, resolving enquiries professionally. Collect and record customer feedback to support service improvement. Support delivery of community events and programmes. Assist with community programme delivery, ensuring regulatory compliance including safeguarding and Ofsted requirements where applicable. 5. Fitness & Membership Support Assist with membership sales, onboarding and customer tours. Support marketing activity including social media updates, POS materials and customer communications. Maintain accurate membership data and reporting systems. 6. Operational Reporting & Service Improvement Provide daily operational reporting including incidents, checks and customer feedback. Contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives. Maintain high operational standards throughout all shifts. 7. Emergency Response & Operational Continuity Respond effectively to emergencies and operational incidents. Apply initiative and problem-solving skills to minimise disruption. Escalate unresolved issues appropriately to senior management. Maintain familiarity with emergency procedures and promote operational readiness. 8. Opening & Closing Responsibilities Act as a key holder responsible for opening and closing procedures. Conduct security, safety and operational readiness checks. Complete effective shift handovers and operational logs. Undertake lifeguarding duties when required in accordance with RLSS standards. 9. Training & Development Maintain a valid RLSS Pool Lifeguard Qualification. Attend monthly RLSS training sessions (minimum two hours per month – additional paid time). Complete mandatory safeguarding and child protection training. Successfully complete all compulsory training within probation period. Maintain National Pool Plant Operators qualification. Participate in ongoing professional development and refresher training. 10. Cross-Site Working & Flexibility Maintain operational knowledge across all ELA Active sites. Demonstrate flexibility in working hours and locations. Deliver consistent service standards across all facilities. Collaborate effectively with teams across multiple sites. 11. Safeguarding Responsibilities Comply fully with ELA Trust safeguarding policies and procedures. Attend annual safeguarding training and refresher sessions. Promote safeguarding awareness and best practice among staff. Actively safeguard the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. 12. Trust Ethos Support and promote the mission, values and ethos of the Eastern Learning Alliance Trust. Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures. Comply with the Trust Health and Safety Policy at all times. Additional Duties Whilst every effort has been made to outline the main duties of the post, the post holder may be required to undertake other reasonable duties commensurate with the role. Qualifications required


RLSS National Pool Lifeguard and National Pool Plant Operators or willingness to obtain.
